About Me

Why did I choose Wesco?

There are a few reasons, the first being that my previous job was seasonal, and I was looking for a job with more stability. The second reason was that Wesco is 3 mins from my house, and I did not have my own car at the time. Wesco was close enough to be able to walk to work if I needed to.

What were your first impressions of Wesco?

The very first time I ever set foot in a Wesco the smell of popcorn pulled me in! I was a customer at the time, and I was running an errand to get milk for the ice cream store I was working at across the street! But I HAD to have some popcorn!! It was popping fresh as I walked up to the counter, and I could not resist!! My first impression as an associate was that everyone seemed to genuinely enjoy working here, and the team had a very family like feel. Everyone was always laughing and happy. I was excited to be joining the team!

Year 1

Sales Associate @ Wesco 48

My first year was filled with a LOT of lessons learned! My first 2 weeks of training we did not have a location manager, but my team was still able to get me through all of my RTO videos and completed my training on register. I finished my level 1 training before the end of my first year at Wesco. I grew in self-esteem!

Year 2

Associate @ Wesco 48

My second year I became a staple at Store 48! You were guaranteed that if it was Monday-Thursday 6am-3pm, to find me at Main Til!! I was very focused on customer service that second year. My favorite unifying principle was to “think customer”! And by the end of year 2 I had nearly 30 regulars’ names & phone numbers memorized (Back when we had to type the customers phone number in)! I also became certified in Propane filling!

Year 3

Operations Assistant @ Wesco 48

By my third year, I was looking for an opportunity to grow and deepen my roots within my location. I spent the first half of year 3 learning about all of the different positions and the expectations of those positions! I wanted to be an operations assistant, my manager arranged for me to start learning some of the tasks an ops was responsible for by working some training shifts with our Opperation Assistant at the time.

In March of 2018 I also began hosting Fresh Rally’s and attending “Fresh Meetings” at the Home office about how to re-vamp Fresh Rally’s! By August my wish for Operations Assistant came true! I was selected to be our new Opperations Assitant since our current Opperations Assitant was leaving for college. I was also able to buy my own car at this time, all thanks due to having a steady job and income to be approved for an auto loan!

Year 4

Opperations Asstant @ Wesco 48

- Year four was HUGE growth! I finished my Level 2 training, became fully trained Operations Assistant, I was fully certified and ready to make a difference! I also had applied for a Brand-New position! With a little (LOTS) encouragement from Jeana Simon (Our Market Manager) and some words of advice from Sarah Walter, I applied for the Fresh Mentor Position for Zone 2! Shortly after, I also became serve safe certified!

Year 5

Fresh Lead Mentor @ Wesco 48

Year five was quite the Roller coaster!! It started on a high note! I had just taken hospitality Class that at the time, was taught in training room 1 with Vernetta! Later that week I had gotten the news that I was chosen to be the Fresh Mentor for Zone 2!! I was excited and anxious and determined to do the best job I could at being a Fresh Mentor!! Although it was uncertain what that meant at the time. Then COVID-19 turned everything upside down! Despite the madness, a team still managed to meet, collaborate, and build a brand-new Fresh training program. And by year end, we had a solid structure of what a “fresh Lead” was! I began working my way through the Fresh lead training and obtained my Fresh Lead/Mentor Certification!

Year 6

Fresh Lead Mentor @ Wesco Corperate

The past year has been tremendous growth as a mentor, and I am so grateful for my position and the development of the Fresh Lead program!

Looking Back

What would I want someone just starting out to know?

Just take things one step at a time. Queen Elizabeth II once said "It is often the small steps, not giant leaps, that bring about the most lasting change". Give yourself the space and time to grow.
